Open the app and grant camera access when prompted. The live preview appears immediately. The bottom of the screen has:

• Lens carousel — tap to switch between Original Feed, Chaotic Sky, UFO Monolith, and Debug Sky Tint.
• Shutter button (center) — tap once to start recording, tap again to stop and save to Photos.
• Aspect button (left) — toggle between 9:16 portrait and 16:9 horizontal recording.
• Camera flip button (right) — switch between the back and front camera.

The top-left has a FLIR / COLOR chip that flips the entire frame between full color and Navy-FLIR-style black-and-white.

Chaotic Sky + FLIR is the most cinematic — point your phone at an open sky to see three glowing UAPs drift over a B&W cityscape with FLIR targeting brackets. Best at dusk or against an open horizon.

SkyFi's neural network couldn't find any sky pixels in the current frame. This is the correct (honest) behavior when:

• You're pointing the camera at a wall, ceiling, or floor.
• You're indoors with no visible window.
• It's very dark or the scene is heavily backlit.
• The frame is mostly buildings or foliage with no open sky.

Point the camera somewhere that includes actual sky — even a small patch through trees — and the indicator will switch back to LIVE automatically.

SkyFi displays at 60 fps independently of the AI inference rate, so the live preview should always be smooth even if the sky mask updates a few times per second. If you see actual frame drops:

• Check the top-right HUD for a THERMAL: HIGH or THERMAL: CRITICAL indicator. Under heavy thermal load SkyFi automatically reduces segmentation rate to protect your device — give it 30 seconds to cool down.
• Close other camera apps in the background.
• Older devices (pre-iPhone XS) lack the Apple Neural Engine and rely on the GPU, which is slower for this model.

This is expected. The neural network re-segments the sky every ~100 ms, but the live camera preview updates every ~16 ms. For static or slowly-moving scenes the mask aligns perfectly. For rapid panning the sky mask trails by 1–2 frames. This is a conscious trade-off — running the network on every frame would drain the battery and heat the device much faster.

A few possibilities:

• Photo library permission missing. iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → SkyFi → Add Photos Only. SkyFi only needs add-only; it never reads your library.
• Out of storage. Recording requires at least ~10 MB free for a 10-second clip.
• Tapped too quickly. The first 1–2 frames after tapping the shutter may not capture while the encoder initializes. Hold for at least one second before tapping again to stop.

If you see a green REC chip at the top of the screen with a timer counting up, recording is live. If you see the white circle shutter button (not red), recording is not currently active.

Camera flip only works on physical iPhones. The iOS Simulator does not have front/back cameras, so the button is a no-op there.

That's the feature working as designed. SkyFi's segmentation identifies what is sky vs. foreground; lens effects only render in the sky region. So if a UFO drifts behind a building, the building will visibly hide its lower half — the same way a real object in the sky would be occluded.
